Track of the Day: Ready by Kodaline

Who’s ready for the weekend?  Who’s ready to not be at work?  ME! ME! ME! Today’s track of the day comes from Irish rockers Kodaline.  I first heard them in 2012 when their song “All I Want” hit the British charts.  The video (s)  made me cry and the song was eventually featured in Google’s 2012 Year In Review (which is a wicked cool thing I had no idea they did and worth a watch just for the sake of “Hey I Forgot that happened”).  Their songs have a aching hopefulness to them and that appeals to me, and makes me … Continue reading Track of the Day: Ready by Kodaline

Track of the Day: The Ground Walks with Time in a Box by Modest Mouse

After taking 8 years off, Modest Mouse is back, releasing Stranger to Ourselves last week.  They have such a distinctive sound, thanks to lead singer Issac’s Brock voice which is at once stilty and  smooth.  And while the first two singles that were released are classic Modest Mouse, I like this one because it is a bit funkier with this great base line with echos of Howard Jones in there. Track of the Day: 5 Years Time by Noah and the Whale

This is not a new song, but every once in awhile you need to hear a happy go-lucky song with a ukele.  And as someone with an active imagination I really appreciate the lines: Although maybe all these moments are just in my head I’ll be thinking ‘bout them as I’m lying in bed And all that I believe, it might not even come true But in my mind I’m havin’ a pretty good time with you. Track of the Day: Northern Lights by Kate Boy

My obsession with Swedish music is apparently continuing into 2015, this time with Kate Boy.  Though the lead singer is an Ausssie (and freaking GORGEOUS), the rest of the band hails from Stockholm.  They recently played SXSW and even got a “best of” mention from Spin.com.  They are electro-pop at its finest with shades of New Order and Depeche Mode and I am really digging them.  If you like this, check out In Your Eyes and Higher. EPISODE RECAP: JUSTIFIED: Burn (S6, EP 9)

Since Ava has been burned, Raylan needs to find another witness to make the conviction against Boyd stick. So Art and Raylan head out to see Wynn Duffy, who turns out to be the rat Art has been hunting!   Raylan and Art pull him out of his tanning bed and essentially tell him they will make it public that he was the  one who turned in Katherine’s ex unless he helps them.  He informed one time, he can do it again.  (Side note: Jere Burns, the actor who plays Duffy is an avid surfer and was very tan when they … Continue reading EPISODE RECAP: JUSTIFIED: Burn (S6, EP 9)

Track of the Day Flashback Friday Edition: Kick by INXS

I had some time to kill with my Netflix lately and stumbled upon “Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS”, a made for Australian TV mini series. I found it fascinating and it reminded me exactly how great a band INXS was and how much I loved their music.  I grew up in the 80s, so of course I know every word of every song they released, and thanks to the quintessential INXS trivia, I learned at an early age what auto erotic asphyxiation was. I watched the reality show in 2005 Rock Star: INXS.  In other words, I … Continue reading Track of the Day Flashback Friday Edition: Kick by INXS
